My 1st Novel — Epiphany

So I did a tentative outline using the Hero Journey method and I really don’t like outlining. I rather write and see where it all goes.

I have been reading all the post about How to Become a Writer; don’t get me wrong input is good but if you have a method go with it; for me I have been writing since I could write. Seriously ask my aunt she kept all my stories and notebooks. Therefore, I am going to continue to do it they way that I have been since I was 5 years old.

An English teacher told me once that it is true writers can be made through practice and more practice; but writers also are born and these type of writers have their own style within them to write. I am not saying that I am one of the writers that was born to write, what I am saying is stick to what you know and don’t change it unless you want to improve your style.

For example, with me I like to free write and see where that leads me, I don’t outline because I believe outlining limits my creativity. For example, I can outline that the main character quit her job; with if that changes in my head how I see the story. Free writing FOR ME is the way to go.

Another thing I don’t do is write early in the morning; I am an accountant and work a full time job so I make time through out the day to write. So I don’t have a set time to write.

Lastly, I don’t use my laptop for writing; my writing tools are a legal pad and pencil, once I write it out, read and edit it then I will type it up.
